Job Overview

BeeU Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service has an exciting opportunity for an Applied Psychologist to join a 12-month enhancement of our existing Intensive Support Team (IST). The team will focus on addressing the mental health needs of autistic young people experiencing suicidal ideation, deliberate self-harm, or eating distress, particularly where engagement with existing therapeutic offers is challenging or additional support is needed.

This enhanced service will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Mental Health Practitioner, and Peer Support Worker. The clinical model will be informed by autism-affirming, trauma-informed practice, positive behavioral support, and family and systemic interventions to ensure timely community support and reduce inpatient admissions. The team will also collaborate with other BeeU services to provide support, consultation, supervision, and training, enhancing workforce skills.

Main duties include providing specialist psychological assessment and intervention, working collaboratively with young people, families, and stakeholders, offering autism-specific, trauma-informed support, leading on trauma-informed care initiatives, working autonomously within professional guidelines, and contributing to research and service development.

Essential: HCPC Registration

Qualifications

Essential: Doctorate level training (or equivalent) in a relevant area of applied psychology; BSc (Hons) in Psychology; Post-doctoral training in specialized psychological practice.

Desirable: Qualification in diagnostic assessments for autism; training in therapeutic approaches.

Experience

Essential: Significant experience working as a qualified psychologist with autistic individuals and those with mental health problems; experience in trauma-informed psychological care; working across various age groups with diverse mental health concerns.

Desirable: Experience working with children and young people; providing clinical consultation.
