Job summary
A school catering service in Barton-upon-Humber is seeking a passionate School Cook to prepare and cook healthy meals for children. You will manage kitchen operations, supervise staff, and ensure adherence to food safety standards. Previous experience in a similar role is essential along with an Enhanced DBS check. The position offers a working schedule from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday during term time.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Cook or Chef, ideally in a school setting.
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Enhanced DBS check essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook daily school meals in line with dietary standards.
- Manage a designated section of the kitchen ensuring timely meal prep.
- Assist in planning menus that are child-friendly and nutritionally balanced.
- Supervise kitchen assistants and maintain hygiene and cleanliness.
Skills
School Cook - Barton
Location: DN18 • Hours: 8:00am - 2:00pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) • Pay Rate: £16.32 per hour • Enhanced DBS required
- Preparing and cooking daily school meals in line with dietary and nutritional standards
- Managing a designated section of the kitchen, ensuring meals are prepared on time and to a high standard
- Assisting in planning menus that are both child-friendly and nutritionally balanced
- Supervising kitchen assistants and ensuring smooth day-to-day kitchen operations
- Maintaining excellent hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness standards at all times
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering supplies
- Adhering to all food hygiene and health & safety regulations
- Supporting with allergen control and individual dietary needs where required
- Previous experience as a Cook or Chef (Chef de Partie level or similar), ideally in a school or similar setting
- A good understanding of food safety, allergens, and nutritional standards
- Ability to manage time effectively and work in a fast-paced environment
- Friendly, approachable, and able to work well within a small team
- An Enhanced DBS check is essential for this role
