Job summary

A support organization in York is looking for a caring individual to provide assistance to a young man with learning disabilities. Overview

Are you someone who is calm and able to use their own initiative? Can you support a young man with learning disabilities who is living at home? Do you want a job that is rewarding and fulfilling?

Responsibilities
  • You will be supporting a young man who is non-verbal and has limited communication. You will need to be able to interpret his body language.
  • Oral and PEG feeding, and the cleaning of equipment.
  • All aspects of personal care.
  • Light cleaning duties at home to help reduce pressure on the family and support a safe environment.
The right person

It is not essential that you have experience in care and support as full training will be given. Own transport is desirable to get to work on the outskirts of York (public transport options are available).

Essential Requirements
  • Compassionate and caring.
  • Capable of communicating effectively and have a consistent approach.
  • Physically fit and able to support a young man to get about in his own home.
  • Prepared to provide personal care as required.
  • Happy to learn.
Training

The training provided will include: PEG feeding Epilepsy

Hours

9 hours per week. The support is needed in the afternoons during term time, likely in 3 hour blocks – days and times to be agreed. During college holidays, support needs to be more flexible – days and times to be agreed. Additional hours may be available.

Pay

A minimum of £12.21 per hour. The rate of pay is open to negotiation for the right candidate.

Other

Successful applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. This post is subject to DBS checks, the cost of which will be met by the employer.
