Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Radiographer to join the x‑ray team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust as Clinical Lead within the X‑Ray department. In this role you will need to balance both clinical and non‑clinical time to ensure effective running of the department whilst maintaining your Radiography skills and supporting the team. The Radiology Directorate offers a full range of diagnostic investigations including CT, MRI, X‑ray, Angiography, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, DEXA, Nuclear Medicine and symptomatic & asymptomatic breast imaging. Our x‑ray and interventional services have seen significant investment over the last few years, with provision of a new angiography suite, replacement of multiple mobile x‑ray and image intensifiers and upgrade of existing static x‑ray units to DR. Further investment is planned over the coming months. Under the guidance of the Interventional, X‑ray and Fluoroscopy Manager you will work collaboratively with the Radiology Management Team and Clinical Director, supporting service improvement, transformation, and innovation within your area of responsibility. You will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge to maximise your effectiveness within this role.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the plain film imaging service with regard to efficient use of resources, quality and safety.
  • Display evidence of good anatomical, physiological and pathological knowledge to assist in the clinical justification of Radiography referrals in line with both national regulations IRMER (2000) (Ionising Regulations (Medical Exposure) Regulations) and local protocols.
  • To acquire high standard diagnostic images and physically position the full range of patient presentations accurately taking into account patient limitations and adapting standard techniques where necessary (presentations include, but are not limited to, distressed children, unconscious multiple trauma patients and uncooperative patients). To undertake more specialised examinations unsupervised where appropriate.
  • To undertake other duties as and when required by the demands of the service or Interventional, X-ray & Fluoroscopy Manager.
