Job Title: Welding Engineer
Location: Manchester
Salary: £60,000 to £65,000
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer / Welding Coordinator to join our Quality team and play a key role in supporting and enhancing the Welding Quality Management System (WQMS).
This position is central to ensuring compliance with welding standards, supporting day-to-day production activities, and driving continuous improvement across welding processes, qualifications, and audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC), ensuring compliance with relevant welding standards and procedures
- Support day-to-day welding activities across the business
- Lead welding-related works order planning data within SAP
- Plan, coordinate, and support internal welder audits and accreditation audit activities
- Identify root causes of welding issues and NCRs using structured problem-solving methodologies
- Support and implement Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) and associated process improvements
- Review and assess welding-related suppliers to ensure suitability and compliance
- Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for new product introduction (NPI) and legacy programs
- Create and maintain welding SOPs and work instructions, ensuring accurate and effective information flow
- Perform pre-audit gap analysis against EN 1090, ISO 3834, and DIN 2303 requirements
- Coordinate welder qualification testing to BS EN ISO 9606 and ISO 14732
- Support Production Engineering and Design teams on welding-related topics
- Support selection and implementation of appropriate welding equipment and plant
- Identify and evaluate new welding technologies and best-in-class equipment
- Drive improvements to legacy programs to maintain and enhance product quality
Essential Requirements
- IWT or EWT qualified
- Registered with The Welding Institute (TWI)
- CSWIP 3.1 certified
- Previous experience in a welding coordination role
- Strong knowledge of multiple welding processes, including MIG / MAG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and SMAW
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Working knowledge of ISO 3834
- Experience supporting or participating in external audits
- Strong general IT and computer skills
- Effective communication and people-management skills
Desirable Requirements
- MSc in Welding Engineering or Degree in Metallurgy (or equivalent)
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience with mechanised and automated welding systems
- Aluminium welding experience
- Experience working with armour steels
- Working knowledge of DIN 2303 and EN 1090
