Overview

Welder / Babbitt Welder / Bearing Repair Welder required to join a leading aftermarket engineering company based in Houston, TX.

The Welder / Babbitt Welder / Bearing Repair Welder will be responsible for performing and overseeing a variety of babbitting and welding operations on bearing components to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements. The role requires strong experience in manual GTAW (TIG) welding, babbitting processes, and the use of precision measuring instruments.

The Welder / Babbitt Welder / Bearing Repair Welder ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in industrial bearing repair, be proficient in tin- and lead-based babbitt alloys, and demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform babbitting (lining and relining) of bearings using tin- and lead-based alloys.
  • Prepare bearing shells by cleaning, tinning, and applying bonding agents.
  • Pour, centrifugally cast, or static cast babbitt material into prepared shells.
  • Machine, bore, and finish babbitted surfaces to precise tolerances.
  • Carry out inspections for wear, cracks, bonding issues, and other defects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
  • Utilize micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other measuring instruments.
  • Perform manual GTAW (TIG) welding for repair and overlay work; familiarity with automatic welding a plus.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including inspection reports.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, repair, and rebuild of large industrial bearings.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on shop equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment.
  • Notify Quality and Production Leadership of any non-conformities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (post-high school welding degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 5 years’ welding experience, ideally in industrial bearing repair.
  • Proficient in babbitting, bearing repair, and precision metalwork.
  • Expert in manual GTAW (TIG) welding; experience with automatic welding beneficial.
  • Skilled with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and related measuring tools.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks, small lifts, and related equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
