Job description

Are you interested in volunteering at the Canal and River Trust but don’t know where to start? Our Welcome Sessions are the perfect place to meet the local teams, talk to our volunteers, and see the range of activities you could get involved with. You can find an opportunity that best suits your interests, skills, availability and ability, whether that’s outside on the canals, at one of our attractions, or from the comfort of home.

Join us at The New Art Gallery Walsall between 11am & 1pm to explore what volunteering in the Trust could look like for you. We have Trust staff to talk about how volunteers support them and help keep the canals flowing.

This is a chance to meet the team and hear about our fantastic volunteering opportunities. You'll hear all about the opportunities across our network covering Walsall & Wolverhampton and you'll have the chance to meet existing volunteers and hear about the tasks that preserve our waterways.

You will find out about a variety of different tasks and activities that you can get involved with: whether it’s working alongside our colleagues preparing sites ready for maintenance (setting up of construction sites), supporting major construction works (or stoppages), brickwork or carpentry support e.g. mixing, cleaning and moving of materials, vegetation management, painting, lock keeping, welcome station volunteers, boat movement, and also the opportunity to work with our explorers team helping to connect schools and youngsters to our canals.

Sign up below to come along and find out more about our amazing volunteer opportunities available.

Why we want you

You don’t need to bring anything but yourself or have any prior knowledge about canals- this is just a chance to dip your toe into volunteering at the Trust. Sign up and meet us for a great day volunteering.
