This role offers exposure to significant industry programmes and excellent scope for progression.

Key Responsibilities (varying by grade)
  • Build, update, and run computer models to assess wastewater and drainage network behaviour.
  • Analyse a wide range of data sources to identify system issues and support decision‑making.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering options to improve network performance and environmental outcomes.
  • Produce clear outputs including technical notes, summaries, and contributions to project reports.
  • Participate in site visits, client discussions, and project meetings.
  • Prepare and follow project health & safety documentation.
  • Support bid preparation, fee proposals and work planning (Senior/Principal).
  • Guide and mentor junior colleagues, contributing to their development (Senior/Principal).
  • Drive technical improvements and support innovation across modelling approaches and project delivery (Senior/Principal).
What You’ll Bring

Experience will vary depending on grade, but the ideal candidate will demonstrate some of the following:

  • Awareness or experience of wastewater/urban drainage modelling, ideally using InfoWorks ICM (or similar platforms).
  • An understanding of GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo) and their use in network modelling or spatial analysis.
  • Ability to contribute to feasibility studies and assessments relating to flooding, pollution, capacity, or environmental improvements.
  • Confidence working with data, running simulations, and summarising technical findings in concise written formats.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, regulators, and project partners.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and systems, with support and training provided at junior levels.
Desirable (Depending on Level)
  • Understanding of the UK water sector and regulatory drivers.
  • Experience constructing, maintaining, and calibrating wastewater network models.
  • Experience applying models for planning studies, operational assessment, or solution development.
  • Familiarity with model build standards, verification processes, hydraulic analysis, water quality considerations, and catchment planning.
  • Exposure to Drainage & Wastewater Management Plans (DWMP) or similar strategic planning programmes.
  • Use of advanced tools such as ICM Exchange or automated modelling techniques (advantageous at Principal level).
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee technical work, assure quality, and deliver reliable project outputs.
  • Experience leading small teams or mentoring modellers.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • For Technician-level positions: HNC/HND or similar vocational qualifications are welcomed.
  • Professional accreditation (or working toward it) is advantageous for senior candidates.
Why Apply?
  • Opportunity to join a consultancy team involved in major UK and global water projects.
  • Hybrid working arrangement with flexibility.
  • Clear progression pathways across modelling grades.
  • Strong investment in training, professional development, and Chartership support.
  • Inclusive and collaborative team culture with access to industry‑leading tools and methodologies.
