A local council in the UK is seeking a dedicated team player to join their Waste Services Team. The successful candidate will need a valid category C driving licence and at least 2 years of experience in driving waste collection vehicles. Responsibilities include managing a team, ensuring safety compliance, and handling waste materials physically. The role requires working 37 hours a week with some weekend or holiday responsibilities. It's a safety-critical position, involving regular drug and alcohol testing.
Candidates will need to be true team players, flexible in their approach to duties that are allocated to them and capable of managing a team of staff and completing your own/the-wider team’s daily workload. You must have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and above all ensure your and all your team’s actions are carried out in line with the Council’s Health and Safety policies and Safe Working procedures.
Applicants for the post must have a valid category C driving licence and a minimum of 2 years’ experience driving waste collection vehicles or vehicles of a similar size. You will also need to have a valid driver CPC card and tachograph card.
We are looking for a good team player, capable of using your initiative to achieve set daily workloads and take care of any vehicle / resources allocated to you. Above all, you must take pride in your work and be willing to make a difference to the overall cleanliness of the Borough.
As part of the Waste Services Team, you must also be physically capable of working alongside various waste collection vehicles, walking long distances whilst manually handling waste, clearing fly tipped waste off public/private land. You must be capable of lifting, pushing and pulling heavy wheeled bins / other waste receptacles, getting in / out of vehicles on a frequent and repetitive basis and drive a range of other non-LGV vehicles around the Borough as and when requested.
The hours of work are 37 hours per week, 7:15am to 2.59pm Monday to Friday. However, in order to provide continuity of service to residents, you will be required to work on certain Weekends or Bank Holidays.
As a Safety Critical role, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing as part of our pre-employment checks. You will also be subject to testing at random intervals during the course of your employment
