Job description
Overview

Here at the Royal United Hospitals, Bath we manage and collect a combined figure of around 1300 tonnes a year of clinical waste, offensive waste, general waste, recyclable waste and other waste streams. We recycle where we can and take the business of managing waste on site seriously. We are proud of our small in-house team who cover 365 days a year, ensuring the site is clear of waste while working with clinical and non-clinical colleagues. This is a physical and fast-paced job; every day is different and presents new challenges. This is an important role providing and maintaining a positive environment for patients and colleagues on site.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a professional, efficient and timely waste collection service.
  • Ensure the clearance of clinical, non-clinical, hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams on site.
  • Collect dirty linen and scrubs for timely return to our contracted launderer.
  • Collection of clinical, domestic, recycling and other special waste items from wards and departments in line with the Trust’s Policy and Procedures.
  • Segregation of all waste streams prior to collection by waste contractors.
  • Weighing and logging of clinical waste bins and electrical appliances.
  • Collection of soiled laundry from wards and departments for storage prior to collection by the laundry supplier.
  • To collect and deliver furniture and other equipment as required from corridors, wards and departments as detailed in job request sheets.
  • Service covers 7 days a week, 6am – 7:30pm. Shifts are varied and worked on a rota basis.
Requirements and Skills
  • Good communication skills are essential as you will interact with many people on site, as part of a team or on your own.
  • You should be organised, with a passion and drive to provide an excellent service and the confidence to carry out duties as delegated, able to work on your own initiative when required.
  • The role is full time with varied shifts covering leave and absence in the department. It is a good first step into the organisation and involves being out and about visiting different areas and speaking with different people each day.
  • To apply, you will need to possess a valid driving licence with C1 category on your existing licence (or be willing to obtain C1 within 1 year of employment, and/or have the opportunity to obtain C1 in addition to your current licence) which will enable you to operate the vehicle used for this role.
