Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the nursing team on Ward 1 at Wansbeck General Hospital as Ward Manager. Ward 1 specializes in Cardiology and General Medicine, offering a fast-paced and multi-skilled approach to care.

This post provides the successful applicant the opportunity to lead a team, develop their skills and knowledge in cardiology and/or general medicine, and support their nursing career development. The specialty involves working alongside the wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to deliver comprehensive patient care.

Ward 1 offers nurses a key role in the patient journey, with opportunities to build relationships with MDT and community colleagues to facilitate discharges home. We have a friendly, flexible team and are seeking a forward-thinking individual to foster, demonstrate, and encourage moral leadership and innovative practice within the team.

This role may require Assessment Centre or Psychometric Testing. Please note we reserve the right to close the vacancy early once sufficient applications are received.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Providing leadership to the multidisciplinary team
  2. Planning and implementing staff rotas and managing annual leave
  3. Maintaining adequate staffing levels and skill mix
  4. Environmental assessments
  5. Encouraging innovative practice and teamwork
  6. Leading clinical audits and guideline development
  7. Leading incident investigations and care reviews
  8. Staff development and wellbeing monitoring
  9. Budget management

Further responsibilities include coordinating continuous clinical care, managing human resources issues, acting as Budget Holder, and exercising accountability as per the NMC code of Conduct. The role also involves modeling compassionate, inclusive leadership to promote a culture of collective leadership within the trust.
