Job description
Ward Clerk/Receptionist

We are looking for a Ward Clerk/Receptionist to join our fantastic teams at H304/305 Wards.

The successful candidate will be welcoming patients and their families/carers on arrival to the unit, maintaining patient records, supporting the nurses and medical staff in administrative tasks & discharge planning, answering the phone, and liaising with other areas for clerical needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the focal point of administrative communications for both wards, handling telephone enquiries and acting as the initial point of contact for routine callers.
  • Ensure that all callers and visitors are attended to courteously and promptly.
  • Enter patient data onto the computer/system, especially admission, transfer and discharge details.
  • Prepare documentation, admission and discharge packs for use by the nursing team.
  • Maintain inpatient notes on the ward in an organised and methodical manner, including printing patient front sheets, labels and fill‑outs.
  • Ensure patient notes are sent for coding/scanning in a timely manner and that all activity is recorded on the computer system.
  • Deal with incoming and outgoing post promptly and ensure post is distributed as required.
  • Update the staffing/patient boards daily.
  • Support ward staff with overall patient care from admission, transfer or discharge.
  • Act as the first contact point for all department visitors and members of the multi‑professional team.

  • Well‑organised and enthusiastic, able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
