Job description

East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust

Ward Clerk

The closing date is 07 January 2026

We are recruiting for a Ward Clerk who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and committed individual to join our busy team as a Ward Clerk as part of the Ward Clerk Pool structure.

You will be expected to carry out various clerking, some data entry and reception duties. Duties also include filing hospital notes, meeting and greeting patients and relatives, liaising with doctors and specialty secretaries, etc.

You will need to be computer literate and any previous reception duties would be an advantage. Experience using Lorenzo and Ifit is highly desirable, although full training will be provided on induction.

This role is for a permanent contract with the working pattern of Monday to Friday 8‑4 pm, including a proportion of bank holidays.

At the heart of everything we do are our core values: Include, Respect, and Improve. We encourage you to embrace these values throughout the recruitment process and in your role with us.

Main duties of the job

The Ward Clerk is responsible for data entry of confidential information onto the computerised database. The data entry must be accurate, so attention to detail is essential.

You will provide a high‑quality reception service by meeting and greeting visitors to the ward.

The successful candidate will also support the general running of the ward by being involved in general organisational and administrative activities.

You will update and maintain accurate, complete patient data on the computer‑based system (Lorenzo/Nervecentre) and medical records database (IFIT).

The post holder will enter and retrieve data from all current Trust computer systems in place (EPR, Lorenzo/Nervecentre) to acceptable data quality standards.

We provide a range of general and specialist services and our 6,000+ dedicated staff ensure our patients receive the best care. We are committed to flexibility and innovation in service delivery. Our ambition is to become an outstanding, patient‑led Trust. We support a positive work‑life balance and flexible working patterns, balanced against service needs.
