Job summary

A healthcare foundation in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking for a Ward Clerk to provide administrative support and contribute to patient care on Ward 20. Ideal candidates will have NVQ 2 level qualification, experience in the NHS, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Qualifications

We are a well-established busy dynamic ward with a highly motivated and supportive team. We are looking for someone to join the team as a Band 2 Ward Clerk. We specialise in ophthalmology and maxillo‑facial conditions. We also take many patients from other specialities. We have a 22 bedded in‑patient ward and also 12‑24 bedded day case ward.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role within the team involving all aspects of administrative work from reception/telephone duties to preparation of patient documentation for admission, ensuring the smooth running of the service. As a valued member of the team, you will benefit from working in a supportive environment, attending regular staff meetings with the opportunity for development. It is a really busy ward and you will have many opportunities for in-house and trust training to help with your role.

Job responsibilities
  • To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Ensures case notes, investigations, X‑rays and results are available for new admissions, ward rounds and multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
  • To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc). Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
  • NVQ 2 level qualification / experience and/or minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 4 - 9 (A - C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software including Outlook; ICT Level 1 Qualification or equivalent
