The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College Family of Schools, with the Head of Blackheath Prep, seek to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and engaging Guitar Teacher to join our team of self-employed Visiting Music Teachers. In the first instance, the role will be to teach pupils on a one-to-one private basis. In the future, this could develop to include rehearsals directing an ensemble. You should be willing to teach pupils from age 6 to 11 years old.
Music is a defining feature of Blackheath Prep, part of the Eltham College Family of Schools and considerable time, resource, support and encouragement is given to the musical life of the school. All children (Nursery to Year 6) have weekly class music lessons with a specialist teacher. In Years 3 & 4, children participate in the school's Strings and Wind and Brass Schemes and are given the opportunity to learn an instrument, fully funded by the school. Almost 80% of children learn one instrument with many learning more.
There is a thriving co-curricular programme, and concerts are held regularly throughout the school year. Ensembles and Choirs vary from year-to-year according to the musical skills and needs of the cohort. Currently, the school has numerous choirs, string, wind, brass and percussion ensembles, flute choir and jazz club.
The Music Department is hosted in a purpose-built Music Suite, with a classroom and teaching rooms for peripatetic music lessons.
