Overview

The Kent Community Health and Learning Disabilities (KCHFT) Learning Disability team delivers a multidisciplinary model of care, providing specialist clinical expertise, behavioural support and developmental opportunities to people with learning disabilities and their families. The team works across four geographic localities and partners with Kent County Council social care services and Kent Mental Health Trust to deliver a coordinated and holistic service.

Vision & Hearing Support Team

The Vision and Hearing Support Team supports people with a learning disability to access high quality optometry, ophthalmology, audiology and Ear, Nose, Throat care. Services include screening, familiarisation programmes, reasonable adjustments and awareness training. The team ensures equal opportunity to mainstream services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out initial assessments and implement interventions to improve visual and hearing outcomes under service manager guidance.
  • Support carers in managing visual, hearing and communication needs.
  • Provide communication support for visual and hearing impaired individuals, including deafblind support.
  • Conduct environmental assessments, familiarisation and desensitisation programmes.
  • Deliver hearing screening (otoscopy, otoacoustic emission, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry) and vision assessments.
  • Maintain evidence‑based documentation of progress and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals in community settings.
