Job summary

A leading technology company in Leicester is seeking an experienced UX Designer to collaborate with cross-functional teams and ensure user-centered design principles are followed. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Design and professional experience in UX design, particularly with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards. Responsibilities include conducting user research, creating prototypes, and advocating for users' needs in design decisions. This role requires strong communication and collaboration skills.

Job description

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features following the GDS design principles. Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions. Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs for web and mobile applications. Develop and maintain design systems and style guides. Contribute to the development of design standards and best practices. Advocate for users and ensure their needs are met in all design decisions. Work closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders throughout the entire design process.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
  • Professional experience in UX design.
  • Proven experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles and standards.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design (UCD) methodologies and processes.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of UX design projects, particularly those within the public sector.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions effectively.
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
  • Desirable Skills & Certifications: Certification in UCD, such as the International Professional Certification in User Experience (Ipcux), is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Familiarity with IBM design tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of interaction design, information architecture, and content strategy.
  • Experience in conducting user interviews, usability testing, and heuristic evaluations.
  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS for creating interactive prototypes.
  • Experience with design tokens and component libraries.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations, especially those applicable to government projects.
  • Experience with designing for voice interfaces or emerging technologies.
