Job description
Overview

In this newly created multi-disciplinary role, we are seeking a Senior Experience designer to join our Experience Design practice supporting both existing and new client engagements. You are a user-centred designer who performs user research, transforms business process into user journeys through service design, and who understands design systems while designing new services that demonstrate how user needs and business requirements are met.

You are strong in service and interaction design, with experience performing user research. You will deliver service blueprints, user journeys, flows, lo-fi & hi-fi prototypes, interface design, component designs, design specifications, presentations and design pitches. You will collaborate with UX researchers and be comfortable guiding multidisciplinary teams including software engineers to implement your designs.

We value inclusive, accessible services and a holistic design process that identifies patterns and workflows within larger systems.

In addition, you are technology savvy with a good understanding of how digital services are designed, developed and operated. You understand agile and Lean practices and are keen to contribute to analysis, synthesis, and increasing consensus while challenging assumptions.

Flexibility to collaborate across disciplines and with stakeholders is important, as is the ability to communicate clearly with business people, designers, engineers and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities and qualifications are described below.

Responsibilities
  • An intellectually curious, creative problem solver focused on design methodology and passionate about inclusive, accessible services for a diverse user population.
  • Developing a deep understanding of user needs and championing user-centered, inclusive design and accessibility.
  • Conducting discoveries, planning, scoping, conducting, analyzing and communicating findings to ground design decisions in user needs.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and guiding software engineers as they build designs.
  • Co-creating with users, leading workshops and broader inclusive design initiatives with stakeholders and the wider team.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and communicating effectively across business, design, and engineering teams.
  • Working across all fidelity of design, from concepts to final design specifications, supporting discovery through to development handoff.
  • Crafting and translating user needs into journeys and evidencing how solutions meet needs with measurable value; reshaping user stories and defining acceptance criteria.
  • Taking a holistic design approach, identifying patterns and workflows within larger systems.
  • Understanding graphic design, typography, color theory, branding consistency and information hierarchy.
  • Being technology savvy with a strong grasp of how digital services are designed, developed and operated.
  • Understanding agile and lean practices and contributing to team analysis and synthesis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions.
  • Collaborating with UX researchers while conducting your own research and evaluations to test and improve designs.
  • Experience with the design and development lifecycle from discovery to working with developers to produce final solutions.
  • Experience producing service design/UX artifacts including user journeys, flows, lo-fi & hi-fi designs and prototype experiences for user testing.
  • Experience contributing to a design system and communicating brand values to serve mobile, tablet and desktop UI with accessibility considerations.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a design role at a consumer-focused company or government body; degree in Design, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Portfolio showcasing design process and thinking.
  • Experience working within the GDS framework and service standards is a benefit.
