Job Overview

My client is a leading logistics and distribution company with a reputation for reliable, customer-focused transport solutions across the UK. From their modern depot in Plymouth, they operate a varied fleet providing overnight palletised freight distribution, dedicated logistics, and warehousing services.

They are now seeking a Night Shift Transport Planner to join their busy transport operations team. Working as part of a team of three, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the nightly transport operation runs smoothly, efficiently, and in line with service expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate vehicle routes and driver schedules for overnight deliveries and collections.
• Ensure all loads are effectively allocated to maximise vehicle efficiency and service levels.
• Liaise with drivers, depots, and customers to resolve issues and provide real-time support.
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements, compliance, and performance data.
• Monitor transport systems, track consignments, and update status reports as required.
• Work collaboratively with the day team to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of service.
• Adhere to all transport legislation, company policies, and health & safety standards.

Job Requirements

• Previous experience in transport planning or logistics coordination is preferred, ideally within a night operation.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• IT literate, with experience using transport management systems (TMS).
• A team player with a proactive and flexible attitude.
• Knowledge of driver hours, working time directive (WTD), and road transport legislation is advantageous.
