Trainee Environmental Consultant

Compensation: £25,058 / year

Description

Riverside are recruiting for a Graduate Trainee Environmental Consultant to join our fully funded training programme. This role offers the opportunity to become a multidisciplinary consultant specialising in air, water, noise, vibration and COSHH—collectively known as occupational hygiene.

This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys an active, hands‑on role rather than being desk‑based. You’ll work in a wide variety of environments, from residential properties to commercial, industrial and historic buildings—often accessing areas not normally open to the public.

You’ll be supported through structured training, mentoring and a staged authorisation process, allowing you to build a long‑term career with clear progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting authorised consultants during site‑based inspections and testing
  • Learning to set up and use specialist monitoring equipment (air pumps, noise monitors, sampling equipment, etc.)
  • Collecting accurate site data using tablet PC
  • Attending multiple client sites, arriving on time and communicating professionally
  • Sending samples to laboratories and assisting with technical reporting
  • Taking an active and proactive approach to training and professional development

Enjoys varied, practical work and travelling to different sites

  • Has an interest in environmental science, health, or workplace safety
  • Is keen to learn, develop technical skills and progress long‑term
  • Enjoys problem‑solving and producing clear, technical reports, professional, friendly and reliable

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree (or near completion) in a relevant subject such as environmental science, health & safety, science or a related discipline
  • Full UK driving licence and confidence driving regularly
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
  • Ability to successfully complete training courses, audits and exams
  • Methodical approach with strong communication skills
