This is a new and exciting opportunity to work for one of the UK’s most reputable insurance companies. They offer a wide range of general insurance products focusing around the Mid Corp arena, providing excellent customer service to its portfolio of intermediaries within the UK.

For the role at New Business Underwriter, the level of entry and underwriting knowledge is very open, where they would consider someone with a few years P&C experience, to someone who is a Senior Underwriter. You would be based in their team in Leeds city centre and the option for some hybrid working too. The main aspects and skill set that is required, is to enjoy writing new business and working to targets, and to also be visible in the broker markets and developing these relationships.

This role will achieve income and profit objectives through the delivery of an efficient case underwriting service to brokers through regular on-site broker development, supporting the technical management of the regional account in conjunction with the regional strategy, financial plan and personal objectives.

Job Responsibilities

• Generate New Business whilst writing within risk selection, appetite, and authority.
• Achieve Bottom Line, Top Line and Expense targets by managing and operating to the Key Performer Indicators of the region.
• Enhance the company’s standing and presence locally by establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships with key directors and staff at the Region’s most important brokers.
• Display strong negotiation skills that aide conversion and relationships with their key brokers.
• Maintain and enhance personal knowledge of relevant technical issues.
• Contribute to the technical knowledge of the Company by feeding back technical and commercial market intelligence to the Regional Director & wider team.
• Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, especially the claims and survey teams, when required.

Required Experience

• Ideally at least 2 years' experience in P&C underwriting
• Proven broker relationships for more senior entry level
• Proven Track Record in Underwriting Development
• Ability to negotiate flexibly and appropriately
• Effective selling skills
• Demonstrates a range of influencing and negotiation approaches
• Pricing of risk accordingly
• Coaching/mentoring if Senior Underwriter level
• Successfully developing effective trading relationships
• Consistent achieving of goals and objectives
• Clear and effective communication
