JOB TITLE: Town Planning Officer

REF: Stoke 5275597

Pay rate: £39.99 per hour PAYE

Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 1 to 2 months

Working Arrangement: Assume office based, as no hybrid working provided

The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Town Planning Officer to provide professional planning advice and guidance and to recommend decisions about planning applications in line with the City Council’s business needs; with particular focus on delivering the objectives of the core Development Management Team.

Responsibilities
  • Give clear advice on planning law, policy, and Council objectives.
  • Assess and recommend decisions on applications and enforcement cases (including listed buildings, conservation areas, trees, ads, hazardous substances, etc.).
  • Support local businesses with planning advice and links to other services.
  • Provide professional planning input for sustainable regeneration projects.
  • Conduct monitoring, research, and investigations to inform planning decisions.
  • Validate planning applications.
  • Prepare and present reports to committees and meetings.
  • Identify regeneration investment opportunities for the Council.
  • Contribute to the duty planning system.
  • Produce published planning advice and guidance.
  • Monitor planning conditions, obligations, and development progress.
What the client is looking for

  • Able to travel efficiently between development sites
  • Assessing or preparing applications for planning permission
  • Good understanding of modern office-based and mobile ICT systems, including development management and document management systems
  • A positive, flexible and proactive attitude to problem solving to achieve divisional, departmental and corporate objectives
  • Good understanding of the commercial and other motivations, opportunities and constraints affecting businesses generally, developers and their agents
  • A sound understanding of the relationship between development management, enforcement, planning policy and other material considerations.
