Qualifications

We’re working with a dynamic precision engineering business that delivers advanced tooling solutions globally, supporting clients in automotive, packaging, and high-precision manufacturing. Following successful growth, we’re seeking an experienced Tool Designer to join their close-knit technical team.

This is a hands-on role where you'll take ownership of complex tooling projects, collaborating closely with designers, customers, and manufacturers to bring ambitious ideas to life.

The role
  • Create detailed 3D tool designs to match customer requirements while keeping target costs in mind.
  • Produce tool parts lists, recommending suitable materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Contribute to R&D and innovation initiatives, supporting new product development.
  • Join customer meetings (UK and international) to take briefs or review designs.
  • Support reverse engineering activities and assist with tool installations where required.
  • Collaborate with the wider design team on larger-scale projects, including peer reviews of designs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to support tool development, assembly, and testing.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team during global business development activities.
Experience/skills
  • Strong background in tooling design (press tools, injection mould tools, thermoforming or vacuum forming).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD (or similar).
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles, materials (particularly tool steels), and manufacturing methods.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in customer-facing scenarios.
  • A proactive problem solver with a collaborative mindset.
