Job description
Job Overview

GMP Recruitment are proud to be in partnership with a long-established and highly reputable UK manufacturer of precision‑forged and machined components for the aerospace, defence, and other high‑specification sectors. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for an experienced TIG Welder to join their Manufacturing Team on a full‑time, permanent basis.

This position offers a competitive salary of up to £18 per hour and a rotating shift pattern within a progressive, technically advanced environment. Our client is renowned for delivering quality to some of the most exacting standards in the world, providing employees with exposure to a wide range of aerospace manufacturing and engineering tasks.

Our client operates a busy, expanding site where precision, traceability, and world‑class manufacturing standards are essential. They are seeking a skilled and quality‑driven TIG Welder who can support the production of critical aerospace components, work confidently to engineering specifications, and uphold the company's commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high‑precision TIG welding on aerospace materials — typically aluminium, stainless steel, and specialist alloys — to produce compliant components and assemblies.
  • Work to detailed engineering drawings, work instructions, and welding specifications to ensure weld integrity and dimensional accuracy.
  • Prepare materials prior to welding, including cleaning, alignment, fixturing, trimming, and tack‑welding.
  • Carry out post‑weld inspections using visual checks and precision measuring tools; may also involve basic NDT processes depending on job requirements.
  • Maintain welding equipment, consumables, and working areas in accordance with strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Complete all required documentation, including weld records, batch cards, and traceability documentation, in line with aerospace quality systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining compliance with recognised aerospace standards.
Key Requirements
  • Proven experience as a TIG Welder within aerospace, defence, motorsport, or other high‑precision engineering environments.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to producing work that meets tight tolerances and world‑class quality standards.
  • Competent use of precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, steady hand‑eye coordination, and consistent welding technique.
  • Willingness to work within a busy manufacturing environment, which may include noise, heat, dust, and shift patterns.
  • Preferably holds formal welding certification or a relevant vocational qualification; time‑served welders with strong aerospace‑level skills will also be considered.
  • Reliable, safety‑minded, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

AN IMMEDIATE START IS AVAILABLE FOR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE.
