Working as part of our multi-disciplined teams, we have a range of opportunities for students to support projects across our Thermal business. We're looking for students who can bring fresh ideas, new skills and creative thinking, to deliver innovative solutions to help us reach net zero. This is an exciting time to join SSE Thermal, and our vision couldn’t be simpler: to be the leading provider of flexible energy in a net zero world.
Our summer placement brings real hands‑on experience through a 12‑week programme.
This summer placement offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside subject matter experts (SMEs) in reliability, asset management, technical assurance, as well as risk & process safety. Candidates will gain exposure to real industry challenges and actively contribute to strategic projects and initiatives led by the Asset Management business unit. The role provides hands‑on experience across the full engineering and operational asset lifecycle, offering valuable insight into how we ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable performance of critical infrastructure whilst optimising cost, risk and performance.
Our interns work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.
You’ll be studying engineering or asset management, mechanical engineering or reliability engineering. Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 2nd year of their degree onwards or those who have already graduated.
We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE Thermal and the prospect of a long‑term future with us.
