Qualifications

  • NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.
  • ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
  • Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
  • Must have experience in Endoscopy and JAG.

Overview

We have opportunities for a Theatre Practitioner to join the team in the Theatre department.

Responsibilities

Main duties of the role include:

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Competitive salary (depending on level of experience, training and qualification).

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
  • Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
  • Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development.
  • Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights, safety, and dignity are upheld at all times.
  • Raise concerns where standards of care or safeguarding protocols are not met, in line with Circle Health Group policy.

Experience
