Caterpillar Desford are excited to have launched a new product in 2025. After nearly two decades, the Telehandler has returned to Leicestershire.

A telehandler, is a versatile machine used primarily in construction, agriculture, and other industries for material handling. It features a telescoping boom that can extend forward and upward, allowing it to lift and place loads at various heights and distances.

Key features of telehandlers include:

  • Extended reach: The telescoping boom provides significant reach, making it ideal for placing materials in hard-to-access areas.
  • Lift capacity: Telehandlers can handle heavy loads, often ranging from a few thousand pounds to over ten thousand pounds.
  • Attachment versatility: They can be equipped with various attachments, such as forks, buckets, and lifting hooks, to perform different tasks.
  • Maneuverability: Telehandlers often have multiple steering modes, enhancing their ability to navigate tight spaces.

The Opportunity:

As a Repair/ Test Technician on Telehandler Night Shift, you will operate as part of a team within the Test Booth & off-line process responsible for the fitment/rework and test of parts/products to Caterpillar's acceptance standards. The successful candidate will partake in an in-depth, one week Induction to align your skills with our Company Standards.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain working areas 5S
  • Fit parts to machinery and equipment
  • Functionality test and Drive test product
  • Make Quality Control checks on products
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement activities
  • Train/coach new Assembly Technician’s within the area
  • Undertake training and further learning as required

You will be expected to:

  • Carry out fitment/rework and test of non-conformances raised during the assembly process, operating BCP built machines where required.
  • Learn the skills necessary to be competent when facing a variety of reworks.
  • Be able to collate data and perform failure analysis.
  • Always act and operate safely, following Safety Procedures and requirements.
  • Learn & Develop technically, understand basic circuits, read and interpret basic schematic drawings.
  • Follow documented dynamic risk assessments to perform safe and defect free assembly of parts and components, using various hand/power tools and lifting equipment provided in the work area.
  • Read schematic drawings to identify possible root cause of varying faults.

You should be able to:

  • Operate to tight deadlines and cycle times
  • Demonstrable high level of assembly or mechanical aptitude and accuracy
  • Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities (willing to work overtime)
  • Thorough working knowledge of the area and build experience of the workstations within which you will be working
  • The ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures
  • Attention to detail, able to work with own initiative and self-motivated
  • You will possess effective communication skills to liaise with various levels of the organization
  • Willing to undertake required training/learning

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing assembly environment.
  • Technical degree OR electronic test and troubleshooting skills commensurate with a Technical degree with equivalent work experience.

Salary: Starting £28,969 rising when role triggers are met to £30,450

Contract: Permanent

Benefits: 27 days annual leave + bank holidays, Production Bonus, Share Scheme (50% Company Matched), Contributory Pension Scheme (Contribution double by Company up to 10%), Free Car Parking, Caterpillar Benefits scheme

Location: Desford, Leicestershire

Hours: Full Time – 37.5 per week

Shift: 16:30-02:30 Monday to Wednesday 16:30-0200 Thursday

Travel: Not required
