Role: Technician - IT

Location: Bedford College - Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People's pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time

About the role

We are currently seeking a Technician in IT to join our IT and Digital Experience department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities
  • IT Support & Helpdesk – Act as the main point of contact for IT Services, logging and resolving issues via the service desk, email, phone, and in person.
  • System Maintenance & Troubleshooting – Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IT equipment and services across all Bedford College Group sites.
  • Administration & Asset Management – Manage IT inventory, update asset databases, issue portable devices, and maintain accurate records.
  • Communication & Documentation – Produce user guides, IT support documents, and update intranet content; liaise with staff to ensure systems are properly supported.
  • Compliance & College Responsibilities – Uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety standards; contribute to quality improvement strategies and attend training.
About you
  • Essential Qualifications – Level 2 computing qualification or equivalent experience; willingness to achieve Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Technical Skills – Familiarity with Windows OS and Microsoft applications; ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot PC hardware, peripherals, and software.
  • Customer Support & Communication – Ability to assist non-technical users, follow procedures, and provide clear guidance while maintaining professionalism.
  • Problem‑Solving & Teamwork – Strong troubleshooting skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team, and contribute positively to team goals.
  • Flexibility & Compliance – Willingness to work evenings/weekends, uphold safeguarding standards, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
