Technical Sales – Application Engineer | Great Barr, Birmingham | Full Time | £33,500 per annum

Are you an engineer with strong technical knowledge who enjoys working directly with customers to deliver tailored solutions?

With over 150 years of expertise, our client is a respected manufacturer of power transmission components, trusted by a global customer base. Operating from their factory in Great Barr, Birmingham, they generate an annual turnover of £5m and are supported by a dedicated team of 60 long-serving employees. Building on this strong foundation, the business is now focused on driving growth and innovation.

To support these ambitions, they are looking to appoint a skilled Technical Sales – Application Engineer to join their Sales department. In this role, you will be responsible for managing technical sales enquiries, developing strong relationships with customers, and delivering tailored solutions. From producing accurate and competitive quotations to offering expert technical support, you will play a key role in helping customers find the right applications for their needs.

Responsibilities
  • Handle incoming technical sales enquiries via phone and email
  • Build and maintain close customer relationships by providing expert technical advice
  • Produce accurate and competitive quotes based on customer needs and applications
  • Ensure all enquiries/quotes are entered onto the computer system, followed up and analysed daily
  • Liaise with internal teams (sales, technical, production) and key suppliers
  • Provide technical solutions and information about stocks, availability, and pricing
  • Proactively progress customer orders and communicate any changes or delays
  • Make occasional site visits to customers for technical support and product selection
  • Communicate market and competitor activity insights
  • Work within the company\'s sales and quality procedures, policies, and strategies
Requirements
  • HND or BTEC in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Experience in an engineering technical sales environment
  • Strong engineering knowledge, including selections, drawings, and practices
  • Ability to propose technical solutions tailored to customer applications
  • Familiarity with bespoke computer systems and MS Office (Excel & Outlook)
  • Understanding of power transmission components and relevant sector knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving ability and technical selection skills
  • Professional and courteous manner with customers, suppliers, and colleagues
  • Flexible and reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Experience with Zoho software is a plus
