Technical Lead (Python & AWS)

Oxford (Hybrid 2-3 days per week)

An excellent opportunity awaits an experienced developer with strong Python and AWS skills to join a leading energy solutions firm in role offering providing ownership, clear progression path and ability to shape the growth of the business.

This company is leading PaaS solutions developer for the energy sector on a brilliant growth trajectory and led by a leadership team with extensive experience in the UK Energy and Tech sectors.

In this role you will take ownership of the engineering function across a team of thirteen. You will cover technical direction and architecture, standards, tooling, development process, coaching, and overall output quality. The teams are small, currently self-managing, and the work leans towards the back end. This role offers a clear structured progression into a 'Head of' role, playing a key role not in the technical development, but hiring and shaping the team to scale. This role is based in 2-3 days per week in the Oxford office, with flexibility around working hours.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience across the full software development lifecycle, working with Python on the back end and JavaScript on the front end, ideally with React or TypeScript. They'll be confident working with multi-tiered architecture via APIs and experienced with a serverless AWS setup, including Lambda, S3, SQS and API Gateway. Given the nature of the role, solid technical leadership or line management experience is important, and looking to progress further into technical leadership roles. Experience within the Energy or adjacent industries is desirable but not essential.

The Person :

  • Strong SDLC experience with strong Python back end and JavaScript front end (ideally React or TypeScript)
  • Confident with multi-tiered architecture via APIs and serverless AWS (Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway)
  • Solid technical leadership or line management background
  • Able to guide standards, process and engineering best practice
  • Energy sector experience desirable but not essential
  • Based within commutable distance to Oxford office
