Job summary

A community service organization in Strabane is seeking a candidate to join the GABLE Helping Hands team. The role involves conducting home visits for assessments, advising on necessary adaptations, and ensuring a high standard of service to clients, especially older and disabled individuals. Applicants should have relevant experience, a valid driving licence, and the ability to work within a team. This position offers flexible working hours, with up to 25 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driving Licence is required for the position.
  • Basic knowledge of minor adaptations and falls prevention works is essential.
  • Experience in working with older and disabled people is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Visit clients' homes to conduct assessments to address their needs.
  • Produce reports recommending services and determine costs for materials.
  • Carry out small household repairs and ensure client satisfaction.

THE EMPLOYER IS: SHELTER NI - GABLE PROJECTThe successful candidate will be required to work with the GABLE Helping Hands team to ensure the scheme continues to deliver a successful service to existing and new service users. They will be required to complete home visits to assess the needs of our service users, produce recommendations and deliver minor adaptions and home safety solutions with guidance from an experienced technician.This position requires undertaking the necessary training to develop skills that will enable you to complete all these activities and gain an understanding of how to work with older and disabled people in a safe way.The successful applicant will need to be fit to work with large pieces of equipment, including industrial power washers, hydraulic pipe bending machinery and various types of power tools.

Responsibilities
  • Visiting client’s homes to carry out an assessment (full or partial).
  • Producing individual reports recommending services and works that will address the client's needs.
  • Determining the exact work that will be carried out under the Helping Hands Scheme and the cost of the materials needed to complete the job.
  • Ordering and obtaining the materials necessary to carry out the required repairs and keep appropriate records of the work carried out and the materials used.
  • Carrying out a wide range of small household repairs and minor adaptations to a high standard, in a professional fashion and ensuring the satisfaction of the client.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe manner and that the Health & Safety policy is adhered to.
  • Adhering to terms and conditions set out in Shelter NI’s Trusted Trader Code of Conduct.
  • Working in close co-operation with all other members of the team to ensure that the needs of the clients are identified and that they receive a response which satisfies them.Ensuring the smooth day to day running of the service.
  • Maintaining appropriate records as required in the procedures for the service.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working with older & disabled people.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ensuring the general health and safety of all project staff and visitors to the GABLE premises.
  • Complying with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Experience using Microsoft programmes, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
