Technical Assistant (Environmental Regulation)
About the Role

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated Technical Assistant to join our Environmental Regulation Section within the Public Protection Division. This is an exciting opportunity to provide essential technical and administrative support, ensuring the smooth delivery of environmental health services across Hull.

As the first point of contact for customers and colleagues, you will play a key role in handling service requests, maintaining accurate records, and supporting officers in the field. Your work will contribute to improving the quality of life for residents by helping tackle environmental nuisances such as noise, pest control, animal wardens and commercial regulation (air quality, Contaminated Land and Permitting).

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for internal and external customers, assessing and prioritising environmental health cases.
  • Maintain accurate manual and computerised enforcement records.
  • Process service requests, correspondence, and financial transactions using systems such as Oracle and Flare.
  • Provide administrative support, including arranging meetings, taking minutes, and managing filing systems.
  • Assist officers in the field with tasks such as delivering notices and changing diffusion tubes.
  • Produce management reports and statistics for performance monitoring and statutory returns.
About You
  • A good standard of general education, including strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience in an office or administrative environment.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and database management.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload independently.
  • Strong communication skills and a courteous manner when dealing with customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Oracle and Flare systems is desirable but not essential.
