Join Solihull's innovative Children’s Social Care team and make a transformative difference in children’s lives, with competitive pay and supportive and flexible working environments.
We have an opportunity for an experienced and committed Team Manager to join our Children We Care for Team. We are looking for exceptional candidates who are passionate about improving the lives of children, young people and their families, here in Solihull.
You will be responsible for the leadership and management of a social work team for children and young people we care for.
We have a relentless focus on permanency for children and young people underpinned by robust care planning. We believe that all children deserve to grow up in stable, loving homes wherever possible and that a safe home within their own relational network provides the best outcome. Children who grow up within their own network tend to lead happier childhoods and achieve better outcomes.
As one of the Team Managers in the service, you will lead on operational developments alongside our partners and work with others to develop the service. You will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day operational management of a team of social workers and family support practitioners, ensuring that children and young people receive a good quality, trauma‑informed and responsive service that promotes and safeguards their welfare.
You will also have the opportunity to be creative, influence practice and promote a learning environment where team members can develop their skills, enabling them to do their job well and support children to achieve positive outcomes.
You will be social work qualified, registered with Social Work England and you will have substantial post‑qualifying experience of practice with young people and their carers.
You will also have:
In return, we will agree a bespoke personal development plan; you will have access to our high‑quality internal training programme and continuous professional development framework, enabling you to develop your leadership skills within a friendly, professional working environment.
Our team also enjoys a hybrid approach, working from both home and our modern offices, and offers various flexible working arrangements. The benefits package includes competitive salaries, a relocation package and payment of SWE registration, a modern working environment, a staff discount scheme and a strong focus on staff wellbeing, with access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
We are a small and friendly local authority with good relationships across the children’s social work service.
We also have close partnerships across agencies in the borough, allowing a culture of support, shared learning and mentoring between agencies.
We use Magic Notes, an IA tool built specifically to support social workers and managers, reducing administrative tasks and enabling more time working directly with children, young people and families.
We have invested in Power BI dashboards to support managers in their day‑to‑day work of driving performance within their teams.
We place children and young people at the heart of all we do to enable them to achieve their potential and lead fulfilling lives.
We are ambitious in Solihull and are building a stronger Solihull for our children, families and workforce. Connecting Families is the name of Solihull Children’s Services practice framework.
At its core, Connecting Families demonstrates the beliefs, values and principles of restorative practice and provides a consistent relationship‑based way of practising to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families.
We believe that families and their connected networks are of primary importance in improving outcomes for children. Children and their family networks are experts in their own lives and should be empowered to build and draw upon their strengths through effective family decision making.
We are also undertaking work on the Families First Social Care reforms and are significantly developing our Family Group Conference offer and the Lifelong Links service to support children and young people in maintaining relationships with those who are important to them both through care and when they become care‑experienced young adults.
If you are ready to lead our ambitious team – and make a tangible impact and positive difference to families’ lives – we would be delighted to receive your application.
