The School

Derby District High School (DHS) is a dynamic school with a highly motivated, supportive and collaborative staff of over 100 people. The school’s motto, “Diligence, Courage and Strength”, encourages students to achieve high standards of academic and social achievement through participation and engagement in inclusive, safe and stimulating learning environments.

Staff are passionate about improving standards in Education, particularly Aboriginal Education, and there is an active social club to support staff both in and out of school. Derby is a remote town in the Kimberley, offering many outdoor activities.

The Role

For 12 months, full‑time (fixed term) starting Term 1, 2026, with possible extension to permanency. As a Re‑engagement teacher you will:

  • Teach a full curriculum and use On‑Country learning and two‑way lesson delivery with the Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) staff.
  • Develop and maintain high‑expectation relationships, engaging students through meaningful learning experiences.
  • Support re‑engagement of students; apply classroom management and the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating organisational and interpersonal skills.

Eligibility

  • Consent to, and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit.
