Location: Newport, South Wales; Pay Rate: £172.98 per day; Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm; Contract: Full academic year

About the Role

We’re delighted to present an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated English Teacher to join one of our well-established and high-performing secondary schools in the Newport area. The school is recognised for a warm, inclusive atmosphere and a strong sense of community, with a focus on academic excellence and student wellbeing. The English Department is collaborative, creative in its approach to teaching, and committed to helping students develop a lifelong appreciation for literature and language.

As an English Teacher, you’ll play a vital part in shaping the learning journey of students across Key Stages 3, 4, and potentially 5. You will deliver engaging lessons that spark curiosity, develop critical thinking, and build confidence in communication and writing. Beyond the classroom, you’ll have opportunities to enrich school life through extracurricular activities such as school productions, creative writing clubs, literacy interventions, and educational trips. You’ll also work closely with colleagues to design dynamic schemes of work and high-quality teaching resources. Whether you’re an Early Career Teacher (ECT/NQT) or an experienced teacher, we’d love to hear from you.

We welcome applicants who:

  • Have experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 experience is highly desirable but not essential)
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Can plan and deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the national curriculum
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and excellent communication skills
  • Can assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive and purposeful feedback
  • Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be in the process of completing their induction

Teaching Personnel can support you in obtaining:

  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
  • Level 2 Safeguarding Training
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Minimum of two professional references covering the last 24 months
