Job Description

Role Overview

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the ownership and development of the Systems Definition for a line of AB Dynamics automotive test equipment. This includes a range of products from track testing solutions (driving robots and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) target products) to laboratory-based testing equipment (SPMM, ANVH, SSTM).

You will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality products that meet both customer requirements and industry standards. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including mechanical, hardware, and software engineering, project management, applications engineering, and quality assurance—will be vital to your success.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with leading automotive clients worldwide.

What will you be doing?

  • Systems Design and Development:
    • Drive the design and development of innovative automotive test equipment systems from concept to production.
    • Define requirements, system architecture, and interface specifications based on customer needs and industry standards.
    • Collaborate with mechanical, hardware, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of subsystems.
    • Perform risk analysis, manage technical trade-offs, and resolve engineering challenges.
    • Analyse customer and market needs to align product development with the evolving automotive testing landscape.
    • Ensure systems comply with relevant standards and regulations, participating in certification processes as necessary.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Requirements Definition:
    • Work closely with stakeholders to define and document system requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of functionality, performance, and safety criteria.
    • Conduct regular reviews and updates of requirements based on evolving project needs and industry standards.
    • Ensure traceability of requirements through design, verification, and validation.
  • Safety and Reliability:
    • Implement safety mechanisms and redundancy strategies to enhance the robustness and reliability of systems.
    • Collaborate with team members to conduct hazard analysis and develop safety cases for product functions.
    • Lead FMEA analysis to proactively identify, assess, and prioritise potential failures to reduce risk and improve reliability.
  • Project Management:
    • Take ownership of your project deliverables, managing your own time, tasks, and priorities effectively within the broader project scope.
    • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop realistic timelines, identify task dependencies, and plan your workload to meet key milestones.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to refine project scope and deliverables.
    • Clearly communicate technical updates, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and team leads.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system requirements, design specifications, and test plans.
    • Prepare regular progress reports, presenting findings, recommendations, and project status updates.
