System Manager (IT/CIS) vacancy in RAF Boulmer (309CM)

Systems Manager - RAF Boulmer (on-site)

Overview: Our Client is delivering an exciting simulation project at RAF Boulmer and is seeking an experienced Systems Manager to provide full-time, on-site technical leadership and support (Hybrid options considered). This role is central to maintaining the performance, security, and operational integrity of a complex simulation system and its associated networks.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will act as the Systems Administration and Information Technology Support expert, delivering preventative and corrective maintenance while supporting documentation, reviews, and wider project activities. There will also be opportunities to provide training, consultation, and tech support across other client deployments. This role also has growth potential leading to higher levels of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor system health and performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
  • Conduct performance testing and system optimisation.
  • Manage and maintain secure networks and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and rectify system faults across hardware, software, and network layers.
  • Administer Active Directory domains, policies, and user accounts.
  • Ensure robust system and data security in line with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality system and project documentation.
  • Provide customer support on the effective use of Our Client and partner software solutions.
  • Attend customer meetings and system reviews to provide technical insight.
  • Offer IT and security expertise to other deployed systems and business activities.
  • Support system design, review, and improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in systems administration.
  • Proven experience managing air-gapped virtualised systems across multiple operating systems.
  • Strong background in administering secure systems and networks.
  • Experience with network configuration and a range of networking protocols.
  • VDI optimisation experience.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously as the technical lead while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Eligibility to hold SC.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting system design and architectural activities.
  • Familiarity with distributed simulation environments.
  • Knowledge of Secure by Design principles.
  • Strong communication skills with experience managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Defence industry experience or prior military background.
  • Project management experience.

Hours: Full-time, standard business hours (Hybrid options considered).
