Job Description

SUPPORT WORKER GRADE I

Reporting to: Home Manager & Deputy Manager

OBJECTIVES

To lead and support the team in the running of the home. To enable the service users to lead a valued and fulfilling life and to maximise the potential capacity of all service users, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially, whilst working in accordance with Colin care’s philosophy of care, its Policies and Procedures and all relevant legislation.

MAIN TASKS
  • To assist in the day-to-day running of the house and in all matters regarding the service user’s lives.
  • To carry responsibility for the service, supervising the work of Support Workers and Bank Staff ensuring that high standards of care and support are maintained, whilst adhering to all requirements and regulations within the Care Standards Act and all other relevant legislation.
  • To work as part of a staff team in a constructive and supportive manner, attend regular staff meetings / seminars, individual support and supervision meetings with the Home Manager.
  • To discuss any issues arising from the above with the Deputy and Home Manager as necessary.
  • To work within a flexible rota system adapted to meet the need of the individuals living in the home.
MANAGEMENT OF SERVICE USERS
  • To advise, guide, support and assist service users on all matters relating to their welfare and health and safety in conjunction with other staff, professional healthcare staff and agencies.
  • To function as a KEYWORKER, taking particular responsibility for individuals, ensuring Reviews, Care Plans and Risk Assessments are carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • To assist in ensuring all staff are aware of and are working towards meeting agreed packages of care for all individual service users.
  • To support service users in making choices in such a way as to ensure that they have a healthy, culturally appropriate and nutritious diet.
  • To help service users to attain and maintain good standards of hygiene and personal care, providing assistance as appropriate.
  • To maintain a valued lifestyle and a positive approach to the individuality and autonomy of service users, contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning and implementation of behavioural guidelines and skills learning programmes.
  • To assist in ensuring all service users are supported to go on annual holiday.
MANAGEMENT OF STAFF
  • To hold formal supervision with Support Workers, after completing the relevant internal supervision course.
  • To be ‘on-call’ by arrangement.
  • To carry out any other duties reasonably expected of you by your Manager or Team Leader.
MANAGEMENT OF THE HOME
  • To contribute to the overall cleaning of the home and involving the service users in these tasks as appropriate.
  • To organise and administer medication in line with all Policies and Procedures and to maintain all associated records.
  • To be vigilant to the health and safety of service users, visitors, colleagues and others.
  • To have a working knowledge of all Policies, Procedures and Guidelines within Colin Limited.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • To undertake courses and pursue own professional development and training. The company proactively encourages staff to improve their skills as appropriate.
