Qualifications

Support Worker - Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Location: Brighton

Salary: £90 - £100 per day

Contract Type: Temporary (opportunity to become permanent)

Start date: Flexible

At term time teachers, we are looking for a compassionate and patient Support Worker to work with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will play a vital role in supporting children's development, promoting their independence, and ensuring they are safe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to children with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and physical or sensory impairments.
  • Support children with personal care, mobility, feeding, and other daily tasks where necessary.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing environment that promotes emotional wellbeing and self-confidence.
  • Use communication tools to support children with speech and language difficulties.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all children.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom environments.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN in an educational, care, or support setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of individual children.
Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 2 / 3 in Childcare, Health and Social Care, or Teaching Assistant).
  • Knowledge of specific SEN conditions such as autism, global developmental delay, sensory processing disorders, etc.
  • Experience using visual timetables, sensory strategies, or assistive technologies.
