Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified female radiographer to join the breast screening management team at UHLG. The post holder will be a proactive and motivated individual, dedicated to continuous service improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organise, coordinate and manage the radiographic aspects of Breast Services, implementing and adjusting strategies as appropriate, and work autonomously to deliver high quality radiographic services within Breast Services.
  • Remain an active member of the clinical radiography team, carrying out the full range of radiographic duties to the standard required by the NHS Breast Screening Programme quality guidelines.
  • Undertake Continued Professional Development to maintain specialist knowledge and competencies required as both a unit manager and a clinical radiographer; identify training and development needs through the appraisal process.
  • Deputise for the Breast Screening Programme Manager when required.
  • Arrange and monitor preventative maintenance and breakdowns for all equipment associated with the Breast Screening Service; initiate corrective or remedial action during equipment breakdowns while maintaining service provision where possible.
  • Develop and deliver induction and orientation of new staff, provide mentorship and leadership of all staff on a daily basis.
  • Act as Radiation Safety Manager, including RPS role and IRMER responsibilities; liaise with the RPS, health and safety representatives, other Superintendent Radiographers and the Breast Services Manager to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients.
  • Liaise closely with the multidisciplinary team involved in Breast Services and communicate effectively across professional boundaries.
  • Actively participate in staff recruitment and selection of radiographic staff; participate in strategic planning and organisation for future service provision and expansion of Breast Services.
  • Collaborate with the Breast Service Superintendent Radiographers and Breast Screening Programme Manager to facilitate the smooth running of the combined service; carry out staff appraisals and support staff development.
  • Be responsible for ordering, receipt and maintenance of radiographic stock and supplies; contribute to the selection, procurement and commissioning of specialised radiographic equipment; contribute to the unit’s cost improvement targets.
  • Maintain awareness of financial control and ensure efficient use of resources; supervise radiographic workload, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to National, Trust and Unit policies and procedures; maintain discipline when standards are not met.
  • Develop, implement and review clearly defined working practices and policies; participate in staff meetings to communicate information, explain service developments, lead transformational changes and negotiate new working practices; act as chair in the absence of the Breast Screening Programme Manager.
  • Monitor sickness and absence in line with Trust Policy.
  • Collate and analyse radiographic quality statistics and monitor radiographic performance to ensure continued NHSBSP quality standards compliance.
  • Record and monitor allocation of annual leave for radiographic staff.
  • Coordinate integration of radiographic and admin/clerical staff requirements; plan and organise practical aspects of running the service with Office Managers.
  • Promote Health Promotion and Breast Screening Service awareness; develop and deliver presentations to Primary Care and service users, engage with patient groups and hard-to-reach groups.
  • Arrange and record mandatory training for all staff, mindful of service requirements and staffing provision.
  • Implement and adhere to IR(ME)R 2000, IRR99, Health and Safety, Trust Policies and Data Protection Act; maintain confidentiality of staff and patient information.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff, maintaining high interpersonal standards in a cancer screening environment.
  • Make complex decisions regarding radiographic quality control data and equipment faults to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day radiographic aspects of the Liverpool Breast Screening Service across three sites (two mobile units and one static unit).
  • Produce monthly staffing rotas for four sites, managing radiographic staffing establishment and ensuring adequate skill mix while coordinating annual leave, study leave, staff training and administration time.
  • Maintain effective communication with Superintendent Radiographers/Programme Managers regionally and nationally to share best practice.
  • Participate in breast screening meetings to communicate activity to local stakeholders and confirm compliance with NHSBSP quality standards; advise on radiographic service provision.
  • Attend regional NHSBSP radiographic meetings and report radiographic QA standards/activity to Regional QA Coordinators.
  • Collaborate with Health Promotion Representatives to develop literature and information sources for Breast Screening Clients and to encourage uptake of the service.
  • Act as IR(ME)R Lead for Breast Services: develop, implement and review IR(ME)R procedures; deliver IR(ME)R training for radiographic and A&C staff; act as expert advisor on IR(ME)R issues.
  • Act as Disability Equality Lead for Breast Services: develop, implement and review the Disability Equality Policy; deliver disability equality training for all staff.
