Role Summary

Substance Misuse Nurse
Provide clinical and psychosocial care to individuals in secure environments, supporting recovery through comprehensive assessment and tailored treatment plans.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to prioritise patient care and develop individualised care packages.
  • Deliver a range of treatment options, including group and one‑to‑one sessions, with recovery at the centre of the healthcare and wellbeing model.
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review recovery plans and communicate treatment options confidently.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication, potential side effects and liaise with prescribers.
  • Support individuals on a 1‑1 basis, provide advice and information, and participate in group work.
  • Occasionally support dispensing and collaborate with Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions.
  • Demonstrate a person‑centred approach and commitment to recovery.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and internal/external learning opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
  • RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse or willingness to undertake.
  • Experience working with opiate‑dependent patients.
  • Sound clinical substance‑misuse knowledge.
  • A non‑judgmental, compassionate approach.
  • Ideal candidates have experience in hospital, community or prison settings.

Working Hours and Shift Times

Base Location: Irford House, Seacroft, Leeds (LS14 6PA) with occasional late‑night clinics and home visits.
Primary hours: 37 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 9am–5pm (rotational weekend and bank holiday work may be required).

  • Day: 07:00–20:30
  • Early: 07:00–15:00
  • Main: 08:00–17:00
  • Night: 20:00–07:30
  • Late: 12:00–20:30
Salary

Bank shift: £23.83 per hour.
Permanent contracts: £35,520 – £51,060 per annum (Health in Justice, Forward Leeds) or £44,789 – £64,384 per annum (Clinical Site Lead, Forward Leeds).
