Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Structural Engineer to join a growing business specializing in bulk material handling and plant processing. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing project specifications, preparing designs, and ensuring quality in compliance with ISO standards. This role offers a competitive salary of £40k - £60k depending on experience, as well as benefits such as a flexible working environment, 25 days holiday, and more. Based in Chorley or Sunderland.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BEng (Hons) in Engineering, preferably Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience in a Civil/Structural engineering field.
  • Knowledge of the construction & process industries and applicable standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review project specifications and confirm scope of supply.
  • Prepare Civil/Structural Basis of Design summary prior to engineering works.
  • Communicate design requirements to the design team.
  • Prepare Civil/Structural calculation reports for inclusion into the project technical file.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare reports.

Skills

White Label are very excited to be working with our longstanding client who are now keen to expand their team with a Structural Engineer.

The company specialises in bulk material handling and plant processing markets, offering services across sectors such as mining, tunnelling, quarrying, oil & gas, and more.

We are recruiting for a Structural Engineer to be an integral part of the team : This role can will be based in either Sunderland OR Chorley depending on the distance of the individual (TBD)

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Review project specifications and confirm scope of supply (including anticipated cost / programme and the impact into the project team.
  • Prepare Civil / Structural Basis of Design summary prior to commencing engineering works.
  • Produce analysis models to validate civil / structural configurations, and to generate foundation loads.
  • Ensure analytical models are transferring loads as expected, and that axial forces and moments are fixed / released as stability (& connection design) demand.
  • Produce hand calculations to validate connection design.
  • Effectively communicate design requirements to the design team.
  • Check Civil / Structural drawing output (as required) to ensure that the information within reflects analytical models and calculations.
  • Prepare Civil / Structural calculation reports for inclusion into the project technical file.
  • Support CAT 2 / CAT 3 checking requirements with any supplementary information as required.
  • Attend sites as required, to conduct site and / or condition surveys, and prepare reports on findings thereafter.
  • Attend project design / model reviews as required, supporting interfacing and tolerancing where applicable.
  • Update Project Engineer and Head of Civil / Structural on progress against task on a weekly basis, Highlighting any blockers or foreseen issues as / when they become evident.
  • Responsible for identifying any (internal / external) changes to civil / structural scope and escalating to the Project Engineer to capture via the DCN process.
  • Deliver works in alignment with the business’ ISO 9001 processes and templates as controlled within the Quality Management System (COS).
  • Identification, and escalation, of all civil / structural Technical Queries (TQ) that occur on the project.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Minimum BEng (Hons) in Engineering (preferably Civil or Structural Engineering).

Experience in a Civil / Structural engineering field.

Knowledge of the construction & process industries and applicable standards.

Ability to use structural analytical software unaided - STAAD Pro or TEKLA Structures.

Understanding of load cases and combinations, and able to deduce structures are behaving as intended through calculation or analysis.

Experience of good time management in a project delivery environment.

Strong attention to detail and committed to quality performance / output.

Strong communicator with internal and external customers alike, with good presentation skills.
