Job description
Overview

Vacancies have arisen for the position of Sterile Services Technician working at Royal Stoke Hospital, with cover also available at the County Hospital, Stafford as required. This is a fully flexible role and shift patterns may be changed at short notice.

Sponsorship

University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship for this role. This aligns with UKVI guidelines and legislation as the roles do not meet the skill or salary threshold for sponsorship. If you hold a graduate visa, you may apply; however UHNM cannot offer sponsorship at the end of the visa, and you must have at least six months remaining before expiry at the start of employment for training and operational reasons.

Shift Patterns
  • Predominantly core shifts of 14:00 to 22:00, Monday to Sunday with a day off in the week. Cover for all shifts will be arranged on an adhoc basis.
  • Weekend working is within these hours and will typically be 08:00 to 20:00 on Saturdays and Sundays 08:00 – 23:30.
  • On-call and Bank Holiday working on rota are essential.
Pay

Pay scale – Band 2 with enhancement pay after 20:00 hours as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

Role and Unit

The successful candidate will be introduced to an environment which is practical, busy, and offers a valuable part of the Health Service for North Staffordshire. The Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit services include the supply and maintenance of surgical instruments, including flexible endoscopes used in surgical and medical procedures. Items are checked in after use, cleaned, disinfected, packaged, sterilised and delivered back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Educated to GCSE level and with basic computer skills, as the role involves daily use of a PC.
  • The ability to read small letters on instruments and follow written instructions.
  • No experience is necessary as we will train you.
  • A short test may be part of the interview process and a full unit tour will be provided.
