Job Title: Steel Operative

Location: Dudley, UK (Relocating to a brand-new, purpose-built facility in Worcester)

Salary: £14.84 per hour

Employment Type: Temp to Perm Role

Hours of Work: Week 1 - 7am-3.30pm, Week 2 -10.30am till 7pm

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Steel Operative to join our client during an exciting period of growth and relocation. The company is transitioning from Dudley to a newly built, state‑of‑the‑art facility in Worcester. This is a great opportunity to be part of an essential team supporting production operations.

As a Steel Operative, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, and handling raw materials and assisting with production line operations. If you have experience in forklift operations, raw material stock control, and a strong attention to detail, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities
  • Raw Material Loading & Handling: Safely load raw materials onto production lines and ensure materials are available for production. Follow FIFO stock rotation and ensure proper handling and storage of materials.

  • Tooling & Equipment Setup: Set and change tooling according to manufacturing requirements, ensuring all tools are correctly calibrated and compliant with standards.

  • Forklift & Crane Operations: Operate forklifts and cranes to move and load raw materials and finished goods, ensuring materials are handled safely and efficiently.

  • Night Shift Production Support: Assist with shift planning and ensure production lines are fully supplied with the necessary materials. Support staff performance and maintain high morale during the shift.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain a tidy work area and follow proper safety protocols.

  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Assist in supervising night shift employees, including monitoring time and attendance, performance, and overall motivation.

  • Raw Material Inspection: Inspect incoming raw materials, verify paperwork, and ensure materials are stored correctly in the designated areas.

Key Skills & Requirements
  • Licences: Counterbalance Forklift Licence (6 Tonnes), Crane Licence (essential), Reach Truck Licence (beneficial).

  • Experience: Experience with raw material stock control, goods receipt, and operating forklifts and cranes. Previous experience in a supervisory role is an advantage.

  • Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy and familiarity with barcode systems are beneficial.

  • Personal Skills: Strong people skills, the ability to work under pressure, and excellent attention to detail. Ability to solve problems and take proactive steps to improve processes.

  • Health & Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a warehouse/production environment.
