Job description
Staff Nurse – Band 5

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Flexible full‑time and part‑time hours will be considered, including internal rotation from days to night shifts. Bank holidays and weekends are required.

Ward: Ward 35 (formerly Ward 5y) – a busy general medicine ward caring for patients of all ages.

No previous experience is required but an advantage is having background experience caring for adults in a hospital setting with gastrointestinal medical conditions.

This role is part of Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Aintree, Broadgreen and Royal Liverpool University Hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care, maintaining high standards set by the trust.
  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward manager/charge nurse.
  • Take charge of ward/department for a span of duty following successful completion of Foundation Gateway.
  • Always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers.
  • Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care; inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with NMC and Trust Guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of ‘Essence of Care’ and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Provide information and support to patients/carers and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient’s condition.
