Overview

The Intensive Care Unit at Homerton is an exciting and rewarding place to work. The team has worked in challenging circumstances with dedication and good humour to provide high standard specialist care to critically ill patients. We have recently opened a brand new wing in our Critical Care Unit, giving us the opportunity to expand our team. The Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit provides high quality care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical and obstetric conditions in a critical care environment. We are a fantastic senior team who are committed to developing our people\'s skills in critical care and to supporting them effectively in this dynamic clinical area. In return, we want staff who are willing to learn, able to work under pressure, and who can work effectively as part of a team. We also want Nurses who have vision and enthusiasm for change and development.

Responsibilities
  • To deliver a high standard of nursing care.
  • To communicate with families and significant others, involving them in the planning and delivery of care.
  • To organise patient discharges.
  • To respond to clinical emergencies as required, ensuring that he/she is up to date with CPR training.
  • To use medical equipment safely and competently.
  • To record and monitor vital signs, recognising when to inform senior nursing staff in the event of clinical deterioration.
  • To participate in a team approach to achieving ward/unit objectives.
  • To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a manner that promotes effective teamwork.
  • To support junior staff in their development, contributing to the learning environment by actively participating in ward teaching programmes.
  • To complete mandatory training when required to do so.
  • To ensure that own practice is evidence based.
  • To follow a structured development pathway.
  • Act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Trust Values.
