About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Years 3 and 4 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to support the development of pupils' communication skills, both in and out of the classroom. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SLCN through tailored activities and interventions.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group sessions to develop speech, language and communication.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting lesson content and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the SEN team and speech therapists to track progress and update individual learning plans.
  • Promote inclusion and a positive learning environment for all children.
  • Support children in developing social and emotional communication skills.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
  • A good understanding of speech and language development.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine interest in SEN and helping children thrive.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant Certificate, SALT training).
  • Experience working in Key Stage 2.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual supports.
  • Experience working with children with EHCPs.
