This role is hybrid with some working from home time, and a choice of bases from Northallerton, Harrogate, Scarborough and Selby.

About the Role

As aSpeech and Language Therapist, youll work across the 025 age range, delivering evidence-based interventions and supporting schools, families, and professionals to improve outcomes for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Youll be part of a multidisciplinary locality hub team, contributing to statutory processes and developing inclusive practices. Across the team, you will benefit from excellent peer support.

There is a fantastic developmental opportunity to act up as a Speech and Language Therapist Manager one day a week. You would be supported by the wider Speech and Language Therapy leadership team to carry out the responsibilities of a SaLT manager. This would suit a SaLT looking to undertake a managerial role in the future.

Job responsibilities

The Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schoolsand settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation andachievement of children and young people with SEND. These services areallocated into SEND hubs, coordinating provision at a locality level acrossCYPS as a whole, to ensure needs are met holistically.

This role involves a specialist level of spokencommunications, so a confident use of English language is required.

Job purpose:

To carry out the professional responsibilities of a Speechand Language Therapist. To improve thecommunication skills of the learners by direct intervention, and developing theskills and resources of the staff.

Operational Management:

Support and advise the education staff, children and youngpeople and parents on a wide range of organisational and curriculum issuesrelating to Speech Language and Communication Needs across the 0 25 agerange.

Preparation and delivery of training to professionals,schools and settings relating to Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

Model and coach interventions with education settings andfamilies.

Work creatively and problem solve to ensure positiveoutcomes for children and young people with SLCN.

To contribute to reports, reviews and re-assessments asrequired by the SEND team as part of the statutory process, within theirprofessional role.

To manage a caseload as specified by the line manager and inaccordance with service policies and professional role, delivering a range ofspecific evidence based speech and language therapy interventions.

Prioritise and manage own workload within the boundaries ofthe role, and as advised by professional lead.

Ensure that all work is planned for maximum efficiency andminimal travel.

Communications:

Develop a range of appropriate information / supportingmaterials (including web-based) to support schools and families.

Use clear, accessible language when communicating.

Ensure clarity and specificity in describing the serviceoffer in order to manage expectations of the teachers and the service usersfamilies.

Effectively communicate needs, outcomes and provisionrequired in written reports to contribute to statutory SEND process.

Keep up to date with best practice and contribute to theprofessional development of staff both internally and externally

To work as part of an established, multidisciplinarylocality hub team based on a flexible approach to support.

Develop and sustain integrated working and effectiverelationships with health, statutory and voluntary agencies, and professionalswithin the broader range of services for children and families to supportchildren and young people, specifically the SEND locality hub.

To work in partnership with staff in Targeted MainstreamProvisions, Personalised Learning Pathways, No Wrong Door, Youth JusticeService and statutory sixth day provision to ensure support for children andyoung people with communication and interaction needs is appropriatelyintegrated into the settings.

Share experience and provide professional advice andguidance to other agencies as required, working as closely as possible toensure holistic support.

Resource management:

To effectively advise schools, settings and parents / carerson appropriate resources to support speech, language and communicationdevelopment.

Systems and information:

Provide data on children and young peoples progress andoutcomes to inform LA data collection and analysis, service development andprofessional performance management.

To keep appropriate and timely records and case notes.

Strategic management:

Work within the boundaries and ethos of school/servicepolicies and procedures.

Safeguarding:

Ensure appropriate confidentiality in all interactions.

Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare ofyoung people and vulnerable adults that you are responsible for and come intocontact with.

Involve learners when taking actions that concern them.

Communicate, record and report actions and outcomes usingthe most appropriate format e.g., service recording forms.

Ensure that information sharing protocols for children andyoung people, and their families, as set out in the General Framework forInformation Sharing in North Yorkshire (2005) are adhered to.
