Job description
About The Company

Are you an energetic and creative Speech and Language Therapist who is keen to work in a supportive multi-disciplinary setting? Are you looking to make a difference to the lives of young people with complex needs and / or autism? Then come and join us in Beaumont College.

Beaumont College is a well-respected specialist college that offers individualised educational programmes for young people aged 16 – 25 with a broad range of learning needs. The college is based in Lancaster and supports day colleges in Blackpool, Ulverston and Carlisle. The Communication Department works closely with the other therapists in college, and supports the Education Team, the Positive Behaviour Support Team and the Student Support Team to ensure that students can access the curriculum and develop their communication skills. The college is a Total Communication Environment and staff are supported to implement a range of approaches including Intensive Interaction, AAC and Makaton.

We welcome applications from therapists who are looking to join an established service and develop their specialism. There will be opportunities to develop your professional therapy skills and knowledge. The role is primarily communication based although there may be opportunities to develop your skills in dysphagia within the field of adult learning disabilities. Dysphagia experience is therefore not essential. The ideal candidate will have some experience of supporting people with complex physical, learning and sensory needs, and have an interest in autism, social and emotional learning needs, AAC and / or developing early communication skills.

About The Role
  • Term time only (40 hours per week for 39 weeks per year) with a salary range of £27,652 to £39,497 depending on experience.
  • Full time (40 hours per week with 28 days holiday) with a salary range of £32,240 to £46,051 depending on experience.

Part time can be considered. Although the post is based in Lancaster, Speech and Language Therapists based further north could be based in Carlisle.

Contribute to the College intake assessment and transition processes, to ensure effective communication support for students at all stages of their placement.

Contribute to the delivery of generic and student-specific communication training.

Influence a ‘Best Practice’ culture relating to communication by participating in the process of collaborative differentiation of the curriculum and evaluating the communication environment to identify training needs.

Adhere to Professional Standards and Continuing Professional Development requirements including maintaining records in accordance with professional guidelines, maintaining CPD, participation in supervision and appraisal, attendance at regular team and Community of Practice meetings.

To work seamlessly across department or team boundaries in a collaborative and constructive manner to implement the organisation’s strategic direction.

To demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence and deliver against the requirements of the quality framework.

To work within the organisation’s policies and procedures.

This job description should not be seen as all encompassing, and the post holder will be expected to undertake any other responsibilities appropriate to the post as identified by the organisation.
