Overview

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our in-house clinical team at Underley Gardens School. You will work with the education team to deliver bespoke Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent or have SEMH needs. You will work within the standards provided in the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working, guiding your practice within an education setting and clarifying your roles and responsibilities, while complying with the requirements of governing and professional bodies. You will hold a Speech and Language Therapy caseload with the support of a designated clinical supervisor and site lead, and you will contribute to staff training and consultation as required. This post would suit a resilient, creative and enthusiastic individual. Our Clinical Teams maintain a person-centred, empowering approach with pupils at the forefront. Contract: Permanent (term-time only, or flexibility around full-time contract can be discussed based on personal circumstances).

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registered.
  • 1–2 years experience as a fully registered member of the RCSLT, in a similar setting.
  • Experience engaging with individuals presenting with complex and diverse communication profiles.
  • Knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working and communicating with families/relatives and carers.
  • Interest in developing knowledge and skills across different areas of SLT.
  • Strong relationship-building, analytical, and judgmental skills; good oral and written communication; good time management and organisational skills.
  • Competent in core SLT practices and understanding of RCSLT Communication Standards; knowledge of assessment tools, intervention types, and ability to formulate support plans based on needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice and management for the client group.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team; willingness to attend training and pursue further qualifications relevant to the client group.
  • Desirable: understanding of sensory and motor differences affecting communication; ability to relate arousal levels to communication; full driving license and access to a car.
